This guide helps you choose a publisher ad network for traffic you already receive. Leave with a permitted product, an accessible payment method and a small shortlist. Then follow how to monetize a website to install, measure and decide whether to keep the placement.
Start with the traffic you actually have
Record monthly pageviews, traffic sources, visitor countries and devices. Use pageviews rather than visitors or sessions when checking a pageview requirement. Keep the underlying report: a large count with ineligible traffic does not establish approval, and two sites with the same count can have different advertising demand.
Write a brief before opening an account
For example: “A general-information website; mostly US mobile readers; organic search traffic; inline ads only; PayPal required.” Add your real monthly pageviews and the country where you receive payment. This is an example brief, not a network's eligibility policy.
Choose the experience before the network
Decide what advertising behavior is acceptable on your site. Do that before comparing promotional CPMs. A provider may offer several products; choosing its display product does not require enabling its popunder or subscription products.
| Product you might allow | Decision before shortlisting | Where to check |
|---|---|---|
| Display or in-page | Which position and size fit the page? Can readers reach content and close overlays? An in-page notification-style banner is distinct from browser push. | Display options or in-page options |
| Popunder | Are an extra window and the available trigger/frequency controls acceptable? Verify the actual account configuration on your devices. | Popunder network guide |
| Browser push | Which origin requests permission? Does this product create a subscription, and how can it end? | Permission and subscription flow |
| Smartlink | Where will the link appear, and are its destination behavior and traffic-source rules acceptable? | Smartlink options |
Check eligibility and payment access
Confirm content policies, accepted traffic sources, country restrictions, approval and verification requirements. A verified absence of a numerical traffic minimum is not automatic approval. An unknown minimum is not zero.
Compare traffic and payment conditions side by side
These four examples show how requirements differ; they are not a ranking. Compare only products you permit. No numerical traffic minimum guarantees approval, and a published withdrawal method does not confirm availability for your country or account. Use the full publisher directory for all networks.
Each amount belongs to its named method. Fees, verification and account restrictions may apply. On a small screen, scroll the table sideways to read the payment-cycle column.

Open a shortlist with your own limits
Choose the product you will permit, then the withdrawal method you can receive. These filters use published requirements; acceptance still depends on content, country, traffic sources and account checks.
The payout cap applies to the selected method's checked USD minimum, not another wallet's cheaper minimum. Without a method, it uses any checked USD method. An unknown traffic requirement is excluded while the checkbox is selected; clear it in the directory to investigate those networks separately. A format filter lists providers offering that product, not proof that every product in a combined tag is enabled.
Resolve the payment conditions before installing
Open each candidate's “Payment methods & sources” panel or review. Check the method-specific minimum, fees, currency, first-payment delay and ongoing schedule against the dated official source. Confirm that the method is available to your account and country. Publisher withdrawal terms are different from an advertiser's minimum deposit.
Save at most three viable candidates in the comparison table. Eliminate one when a required method or product is missing; mark an unresolved requirement for confirmation. If no candidate passes your limits, change a constraint deliberately rather than choosing the lowest displayed threshold.
Build a comparable baseline
Your shortlist answers who to investigate, not what you will earn. Record a representative period before making a change: pageviews, delivered ad impressions if any, net ad earnings, country/device mix, loading performance and your main visitor action. For a new ad placement, separate the pages in the test from untouched pages.
Download the revenue test worksheet to keep the dates, currency, geography, device, format and report scope together. Use the implementation sequence to define the placement and stop conditions before launch.
Calculate with the correct unit
Page RPM = net ad earnings ÷ matching pageviews × 1,000. Impression eCPM = net ad earnings ÷ matching ad impressions × 1,000. An advertiser's bid or referral commission is neither of these publisher rates. Keep estimated earnings separate from finalized earnings or a received payout.
Use the ad revenue calculator with your measured publisher rate, or the AdSense calculator for its reporting model. A historical Page RPM already includes the sample's delivery and fill; do not multiply it by slots or fill again. Without a measured rate, an editable scenario remains an assumption.
Decide when to keep, change or stop
Compare net income with the visitor task you need to protect. A higher rate can be a poor result if readers cannot navigate, return less often or stop making valuable enquiries. Set a review date and a concrete stop condition; keep those choices fixed while evaluating a limited placement.
Published thresholds and schedules describe payment conditions, not verified payment performance. Recheck outstanding account terms before increasing the test or expecting a withdrawal.
A first-network checklist
- The content and traffic sources meet the applicable policy, with unknown requirements resolved.
- Only the agreed product, placement and frequency will be enabled.
- The chosen withdrawal method is accessible, with its own minimum, fees and timing checked.
- The report's earnings and denominator cover the same inventory and dates.
- The limited test has a baseline, a review date and a removal plan.

Metric reference
Google AdSense explains RPM and its denominators. The selection and test steps here are planning methods, not a network approval or earnings guarantee. Source-linked provider terms are in the network list and individual reviews.
